FORGING RESEARCH
Acknowledgements Over the course of this project, the support of many individuals and organizations has been critical to my success, and here I would like to extend my gratitude to these people for their support. First and foremost, my gratitude is extended to my advisor, Dr. Anthony J. DeArdo. The knowledge and experience he has in the field of physical metallurgy is remarkable, and his willingness to share this with me has been a crucial resource for me over the course of my study. Additionally, I would like to thank my fellow members of the BAMPRI research group, as well as the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science, and the University of Pittsburgh as a whole, for the opportunity to study and conduct research. The facilities and information provided have been vital for the success of this project. Secondly, I would like to acknowledge the support provided by the Forging Industry Education Research Foundation, FIERF. Additionally, individual thanks must be extended to Ms Karen Lewis (FIERF) and Dr Graham McIntosh (Universal Stainless, FIERF) for the administration and oversight they have provided throughout the project. Additionally, the aid and guidance of the forging experts at Meadville Forging Company, especially Mr. Fred Geib andMr. Carl McLean, is recognized. The knowledge and experience they possessed was important in the design of the included experiments. Finally, TIMKENSTEEL Steel Company is acknowledged for the generous supply of the laboratory steel heats tested in the project. Specifically, Dr. Tom Zorc is acknowledged for his extensive correspondence with the BAMPRI research group, ensuring the smooth progression of the project.
