On Wednesday, June 30, the FIA Safety Awards were presented to those winning companies in attendance. The FIA Safety Awards are given each year to companies for having the lowest Recordable Cases Incidence Rate, provided that the DART Incidence Rate falls below the group average. The award winners represent the top-performing facilities in FIA’s 2020 Occupational Injury & Illness Survey, which collected data for several safety categories.

The FIA Annual Meeting concluded with over 40 attendees joining for a boat tour of Lake Geneva where they enjoyed cocktails and appetizers as they took in scenic views from the lake.

Incoming FIA Board Chairman, Doug McIntyre, Weber Metals, recognized and thanked the outgoing Board Members who had completed their terms as Directors of the Association. Doug welcomed and introduced the incoming officers for the 2021- 2022 term. Officers in attendance included Perry Bennett, Asahi Bluegrass Forge; Mark Candy, Eaton Steel Bar Company; Jim Kravec, Weldaloy Speciality Products; and AshelighWalters, Onex.

Thanks to sponsors Walker Forge and Scot Forge, former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan held the audience captive with his stories of how he was recruited to run for Speaker of the House and what he was up to now as faculty at Notre Dame. Scot Forge CEO John Cain served as moderator bringing up issues of concern for forgers, including fair trade, taxes and the Biden administrations climate plans. Speaker Ryan discussed republicans’ chances of retaking the White House, mentioning Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis, Mike Pompeo, Tim Scott, Tom Cotton and Kristi Noem as excellent prospects to take the ticket.
