MAINTENANCE

• Consideration of ground water control during construction is extremely important. • Soil compaction should be confirmed directly before pouring concrete! • Dewatering can release toxins from brown sites and can introduce a burdensome list of activities. • Vibration isolation can significantly reduce foundation excavation and eliminate deep foundation requirements. • Vibration isolation systems allow access to the underside of the machine and protect against settlement over the life of the machine. • Plant layout can be optimized when vibration does not dictate the distance machines need to be from the forging line. • Hire a knowledgeable contractor in machine foundations! Get toWork! Installing a new forging line is an exciting endeavor, but it can be plagued with many pitfalls that can haunt facilities personnel for decades. Developing good partnerships with industry experts can reduce some of the headaches. Prior to moving forward with any project keep several points in mind: • Hire a knowledgeable geotech firm that will conduct a thorough site investigation. Several deep borings should be performed close to the foundation site.
