OPERATIONS & MANAGEMENT
Bishop and Seitz’s paper on Reindustrialization inspired many attendees. Yet, Mr. Bishop didn’t stop with publishing a white paper. He turned his words into action and started a movement in the U.S. Last week the New American Industrial Alliance hosted its second annual Reindustrialize Summit in Detroit. Not only was the event attended by 1,200 leaders from manufacturing, technology, defense, and finance sectors, but “thousands were on the waiting list and more than 16,000 watched the speeches, round tables and fireside chats online.” This enthusiasm for rebuilding American manufacturing is moving us closer to realizing our production potential in Industry 4.0 and the revitalization of cities across the country. Mr. Bishop said that "Reindustrialize started as a call to action and has evolved rapidly into a bipartisan movement driving innovation, policy and manufacturing to strengthen the American industrial base." It’s important to note that the mission statement of NAIA goes beyond the goal of reindustrialization and national security, to “rebuild trust between citizens and their institutions, and usher in a new era of prosperity for Americans of all economic classes.” “If not now, when?” – Hillel the Elder Now that the Big Beautiful Bill has passed into law, businesses will benefit from “permanent 100 percent bonus depreciation, immediate expensing for R&D costs, restoration of the EBITDA-based interest deduction limit, expanded Section 179 expensing, and a permanent 20 percent pass-through deduction.” Additionally, significant tariffs have been implemented to protect American manufacturing that will benefit the forging industry. This is a window of opportunity to strengthen and grow the forging industry. This is the time to invest in our plants, our workforce, and our equipment. By reinvesting in our businesses, we can strengthen the forging industry and help to make American reindustrialization a reality.
