EQUIPMENT & TECHNOLOGY

Building out the model was an incredible accomplishment, but any model must be validated before it can be trusted. With the model fully built, the team compared results from the model with experimental results using C56 steel bearings. Simulating the process beforehand allowed the team to then compare expected measurements with the real-life measurements taken during the actual process. The team analyzed four particular aspects to validate the model. The team found a high correlation between the model and actual results based on the following measurements: • Microstructure and martensitic profile • Deformation of the ring to heat treatment • Quenched depth and defined shape • Hardness and stresses Correlation between the expected and actual results gave the NTN-SNR team confidence in the outcomes from the simulation. Validating the model was a big step for the NTN-SNR team and a great step forward in the innovation of their process. With a validated model, the NTN SNR team now has a new tool in their toolbox for future process improvements or new product developments. For NTN SNR, innovation can now happen faster and more efficiently.

value to their customers earlier in the design process. Forging simulation software acts as a new tool in the toolbox to help experienced forgers get to market faster, provide higher quality products, and grow margins simultaneously. Simulation software allows forgers to embrace innovation and never look back. Those that choose to keep things the same may see market share and margins quickly eroded. Those that embrace innovation through simulation are setting themselves up for success. To unlock the potential innovation of forging simulation and to learn more about how simulation can improve your forging operations, reach out to the FORGE® team today.

What NTN-SNR Roulements says: “The work carried out with the support from Transvalor made it possible in the FORGE® software to implement a new description of the behavior of the power generator. Integrating the operating point of the generator into the simulation makes it possible to obtain a single and full solution for developing the entire induction hardening process,” Victor Lejay, Process Development Engineer at NTN-SNR Roulements. Embracing Innovation with Simulation Forging is more competitive than ever. Rising costs of material and energy coupled with customers demanding lower prices makes it hard for any forge to stay on top. For forward thinking companies, turning to innovation is what will set you apart from the competition. Traditional forging processes can be slow and wasteful with both time and money. These processes usually waste time, material, and energy due to their lack of optimization. Ultimately, these higher costs make the company less competitive in the market. Companies that choose to embrace innovation with forging simulation are giving themselves the tools to be more efficient with their current processes and the ability to bring more
