The Broadmoor: A Legendary Legacy In 1918, Spencer and Julie Penrose, notable Colorado Springs entrepreneurs and philanthropists, founded The Broadmoor. Renowned for creating various regional attractions in the first half of the 20th century, the couple's enduring legacy encompasses Pauline Chapel, The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, Will Rodgers Shrine of the Sun, and Penrose Heritage Museum. The museum, named after Spencer and Julie Penrose, serves as a showcase for their passions and possessions. Positioned adjacent to Broadmoor Hall, entry to this museum is complimentary. The grand opening of The Broadmoor on June 29, 1918,

drew a diverse crowd of guests and inquisitive locals. The lobby, halls, restaurants, and 350 guest rooms were adorned with exquisite decorations and furnishings handpicked by Julie Penrose. The room rates, ranging from $10 to $12 per night (approximately $199 today), included three meals prepared by Broadmoor Executive Chef Louis Stratta. Guests indulged in various activities, from tea and afternoon dancing in the ballroom to enjoying music from a string quartet in the dining room and taking a dip in the 100,000-gallon indoor swimming pool. The Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Broadmoor, sprawled across 5,000 acres in Colorado Springs, ensures guests are always engaged with a plethora of activities. Choices span from falconry, pickleball, zip-lining, world-class golf, paddle boating, swimming, tennis, fly

fishing, and even an onsite movie theater. Families of FIA Annual Meeting attendees can explore "Play" at The Broadmoor, featuring six bowling lanes and a menu catering to various preferences. Surrounded by excellent hiking opportunities, The Broadmoor is near attractions like Seven Falls and the iconic red rock formations of the Garden of the Gods. The resort is also within a few miles of the charming art town of Manitou Springs. Attendees of the FIA Meeting of Members can register in advance for optional offsite activities, including the Topgolf FIERF Fundraiser, Western Museum of Mining Tour, Train Ride on Pikes Peak Cog Railway, Crafts & Drafts Tour, Airforce Academy Tour, and Garden of the Gods Jeep Tour.
