University, an online educational platform that provides forging related training. Each year, Dr. Lowe will contribute to the creation of at least one new course, expanding the educational opportunities available to students and professionals across the globe. His involvement in Forging University will further solidify Mines' position as a leader in forging education. A critical aspect of the FIERF Professorship is the collaboration between Mines and various industry partners. Dr. Lowe will work closely with research centers such as the Advanced Steel Processing and Products Research Center (ASPPRC) and other research groups, including the Canadian Forging and Steel Association (CANFSA). This collaboration will ensure that Mines’ research remains relevant and impactful, and that new developments are shared with FIERF and its members as soon as they enter the public domain. Twice a year, Mines will provide FIERF with a summary of the research conducted by Dr. Lowe and his team, which will be published in FIA Magazine. The FIERF Professorship is also committed to ensuring the long-term success of the program. Dr. Lowe will work with Mines to develop a succession plan for future FIERF Professors, ensuring that the program continues to thrive for years to come. By mentoring the next generation of leaders in forging education and research, Dr. Lowe will help ensure the lasting impact of the FIERF Professorship.
Through his leadership, Dr. Lowe will also help Mines and FIERF identify opportunities to expand their research and educational offerings. This includes contributing to the creation and review of curricula for Forging University and other programs, as well as exploring new avenues for collaboration with industry partners. His efforts will ensure that the educational needs of the forging industry are met and that Mines remains at the cutting edge of forging research and education. Dr. Lowe’s appointment as the FIERF Professor represents a significant step forward for both the Forging Foundation and Colorado School of Mines. His deep expertise in materials science, combined with his commitment to advancing both education and industry collaboration, will have a lasting impact on the forging community.
