Data captured is housed in this portal for use by managers to recognize trends in infractions, find solutions to reoccurring infractions and use for training purposes. To understand how it truly works, imagine a forklift carrying an extremely hot alloy piece just retrieved off the anvil. The forklift driver is moving south, but a worker with his or her back to the crane is moving north, not realizing he or she is about to walk directly into the path of this extremely hot load. This area in the facility is equipped with sensor fusion AI, computer vision, lidar/radar, in addition to wearable devices and other sensors that are continuously monitoring and feeding input to be analyzed by edge servers. Camera A attached to the forklift tells the system the forklift is moving and in what direction, Camera B views a worker only steps away from walking into the path of the forklift, and also relays that input to the system. The data is processed almost instantly to create

an alert sent to the worker via a wearable device before he or she steps in front of the dangerous load. In addition to the camera attached to the forklift, a sensor can also be placed on it to surround the mobile equipment with a geofence. If a worker ventures within inches of the geofence, an alert is sent to the wearable on his or her wrist within seconds.0 In this scenario, Sentri360® is able to help the workers avoid a dangerous situation and prevent an accident, or worse, before it happens. This type of technology allows us to not only change the way we think about safety, but also the way we approach our own safety programs. A Safer Future in Forging While so much work has been done to improve safety in the industry, the number of accidents, injuries and fatalities that occur every year tell us that there is still more work to be done. I believe to reach an accident-free industry; it starts with changing our thinking. Together, we can embrace new technology and shift the safety paradigm in forging to create a safer future. ■
