Finally, for ultra-low-volume applications – including one-offs – Vectis has recently unveiled their new QuickTeach and AI Path Optimization features, which allow the operator to teach the cobot paths through buttons located on a programming puck right at the torch. The AI Path Optimization then sets torch angles and corner transitions based on pre-defined optimal settings for that specific weld wire, size, type, etc. “The goal here is to even further lower the batch-size threshold and the learning curve for programming – to Vectis advises that even though they’ve lowered the barriers to entry to automation, success is still highly dependent on the application and what they call the “cobot champion” at the fabricator.
