Donor Spotlight: Pat Mooney Saws

The Forging Industry Educational & Research Foundation (FIERF) would like to recognize one of our Silver Anvil Society Donors, Pat Mooney Saws. Pat Mooney Saws was founded in 1949 by Pat

Pat Mooney has been an active member of the Forging Industry Association since 2003 and has been contributing to the Forging Foundation for 16 years. Over that time, Pat Mooney has funded FIERF’s educational programs and the Al Underys Engineering, Metallurgical & Material Sciences Memorial Scholarship. Pat Mooney is also a proud sponsor of FIERF’s Annual Golf Outing. Mooney. Today the company remains a family-owned business. Pat Mooney’s grandson, Pat Thornton and his three sons own and direct the business. Together with 3 of Pat’s sons, the firm is approaching their 75th year in business. As the name suggests, Pat Mooney Saw is a dedicated supply & service of metal sawing equipment. Their 60,000 sq. ft building in Addison, IL carries a wide range and volume of metal sawing machines and blades. Pat Mooney Saws introduced their Nishijimax NHC-100 High Speed saw to the Forge industry at Forge Fair 2000. Since that time, more than 800 Nishijimax machines have been installed in North America. Their saw blade supplier is Kanefusa (Japan).

The Forging Foundation awards grants to advance the science of forging and to engage students and professors in industry relevant research. (Forging Research section of FIA Magazine features papers written by these students and professors.)

The Forging Foundation hosts Technology and Workforce Development Summits to develop meaningful relationships between businesses, faculty and students for senior design/research projects and to develop a talent pipeline through internships and interactions within the forging industry.
