FIERF Announces 2023-2024 Scholarship Recipients
Al Underys Engineering, Metallurgical & Material Sciences Memorial Scholarship Winners The Al Underys Memorial Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship available to high school seniors or current undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in chemical, computer, electrical, industrial, materials, mechanical or metallurgical engineering. Scholarship recipients are asked to complete an internship with an FIA member company for scholarship renewal. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and be a citizen of the United States, Canada or Mexico. • Titus Smith - Colorado School of Mines • Athena Shier - University of South Carolina: Columbia
Each year the Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation (FIERF) awards scholarships to qualified students in North America. FIERF is pleased to announce that the following 22 students will be awarded a scholarship for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. Charles W. Finkl Scholarship Winners The Charles W. Finkl Scholarships are awarded to college sophomores and juniors majoring in metallurgical, materials, chemical, computer, electrical or industrial engineering at an accredited four-year college or university. Awards are $2,000 in the junior year and an additional $2,000 in the senior year if the student remains eligible. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and be a citizen of the United States, Canada or Mexico. • Ian Ramanata – Kettering University • Michael McSorley – University of Texas at Dallas • Noah Kudla – University of Cincinnati • Lacey Hunt– University of Idaho Coeur d’Alene • Adam Bearden – North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University • Zac Leverich – Pittsburgh State University • Kang Lin – University of Houston • Jose Gonzalez-Blancas – Wayne State University • Mason Lane – South Dakota School of Mines & Technology • Robert Oratorio – University of Delaware Forging Industry Women’s Scholarship Winners Endowed by a gift from Sharon P. Haverstock, and contributions from the forging industry, this scholarship is looking to reward the best and brightest women who have the desire and potential to reach executive or senior leadership levels. The Forging Industry Women’s Scholarships award up to $5,000 to full-time graduate and undergraduate students attending a two- or four- year college or university in the fields of engineering, business or a comparable area of study. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and be a citizen of the United States, Canada or Mexico. • Sabrina York – Kettering University • Georgia Hobday – University of Wisconsin – Madison • Willow Knight – University of North Texas • Leah Rietz – University of Wisconsin – Madison
