Member Spotlight: Performance Forge, Inc.

Traditionally, PFI has operated as a job shop, taking multiple small orders, and changing forge dies multiple times through the day. More recently, however, PFI has taken on several high-volume OEM parts that require long runs, of a week or more at a time. “No job is too small,” said Darin Teevans, Vice President of Engineering.

Performance Forge, Inc. (PFI) is proud to share that it has recently brought an additional Mechanical Press online to better serve the marketplace. The 1600T press has been completely rebuilt with all new bearings, bushings, guides, air valves, clutch, brake, lube system and a modern control system. The press is expected to provide years of trouble-free service. With press sizes ranging from 3,500T down to the newest 1,600T press, PFI has a wide variety of options to help serve their customers. PFI was started in 1995 and has increased in size every year for the last 27 years. Originally part of the Alcoa Forging Division, at the Vernon, CA facility, PFI has generations of knowledge and experience behind its name. Over the years, PFI has grown to provide a wide array of industries with custom American Made closed-die forgings. PFI specializes in the forging of aluminum and focuses on the complex market of forged aluminum pistons. With in-house treat and testing, PFI routinely produces products in the alloys of 2618, 4032, 6061, 7075, and many others. With forging capability that ranges from 85 pounds to less than one pound, PFI is uniquely capable of providing precision aluminum forgings to a wide variety of industries.

“We love the challenge of one-off products, as well as jobs that can run for a week at a time.” Ernie Barraza, Operations Manager at PFI for the past decade, had this to say about PFI’s location: “Being located in the Los Angeles area provides us with great support companies in close proximity, as well as access to a diverse, and extensive employment network.” In addition to taking care of their employees, PFI is also dedicated to adding automation to the shop floor. Together, this makes the company uniquely positioned for growth for the next decade and beyond. “We are proud to be family-owned and operated and have always made employee safety our number one operational priority,” said Wayne Ramay, President. As evidence of this fact, the entire organization is proud of having recently achieved another streak of 365 consecutive days without a recordable injury. Wayne Ramay continued: “In addition to safety, PFI also focuses on product quality (AS9100D and IATF16949 certified), superior customer service and continuous cost reduction.” All of PFI’s products are American Made.
