THE VALUE OF FORGING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION COMMITTEES By Angela Gibian

T he Forging Industry Associa tion (FIA) plays a pivotal role in representing and advancing the forging industry through various committees that help shape the future of the sector. Membership in these commit tees provides professionals with the opportunity to influence industry stan dards, drive innovation, and build valu able networks. For members of the FIA, participating in committees is not only a way to give back to the industry but also an essential means of gaining profes sional development, business opportuni ties, and visibility within the industry. FIA Standing Committees FIA Standing Committees are essen tial to the operation of the association. Each committee has specific objectives

• Plant Engineering Committee ( and Energy Subcom mittee) The Plant Engineering Committee, along with its Energy Subcommittee, addresses key issues related to the operational side of forging plants. Committee members work together to help plan and optimize training programs and events for the association. They are also responsible for selecting and orga nizing the presentation content for the industry’s only North American Trade Show, Forge Fair. The Energy Subcommittee assists in identifying best practices for energy management, cost reduction, and equipment optimization. Those interested in plant operations, process training and education, sustain ability, and energy efficiency will find valuable opportunities to contribute to the industry’s advancement in these areas. • Workforce Development Committee The Workforce Development Committee tackles the forging industry's ongoing need for skilled workers. It focuses on initiatives related to recruiting, training, and retaining talent in the forging sector. Members of this committee help develop programs that provide educational opportunities for workers, ensuring the industry can meet current and future workforce demands. Participation in this committee allows members to play a role in shaping educational curricula, internship engagements, and training programs.

Below are the standing committees that form the back bone of the FIA: • Marketing Committee The Marketing Committee is responsible for promoting the FIA’s initiatives and raising awareness about the forging industry as a whole. It works on strategies to communicate the value of forging technologies, products, and processes to a broader audience. Joining the Marketing Committee allows members to gain insights into effective industry messaging and shape the perception of the forging sector. • Public Policy Committee The Public Policy Committee focuses on advocating for favorable public policies that benefit the forging industry. This committee tracks legislative changes, engages with poli cymakers, and helps shape policies related to the industry’s regulatory environment. By participating in this committee, members can ensure that the needs and concerns of the forging community are considered at the local, state, and federal levels. It’s a crucial platform for members to advocate for issues such as regulatory compliance, trade policy, and environmental standards.
