FORGING RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY

Type 3 : FDFD for production of forgings with round, square, and rectangular cross-sections from the ingots with round, square, polygonal and rectangular cross-sections. This device type uses the forging technique with additional shear deformations in the transverse plane of a workpiece and non-symmetric swages in its longitudinal plane. This Four-Die Forging Device has two separate drives for the dies using the electrical motors, which are used to move two dies to obtain the required dimensions of the forgings with rectangular sections, Figure 3.

Type 4 : FDFD for production of forgings with mainly round cross section, including hollow forgings, from the ingots with round, square, and polygonal cross-sections. This device type uses the forging technique without additional shear deformations in the transverse plane of a workpiece and is mostly used in RFM forging mode, Figure 4. This type of FDFD can be designed in such a way that the forging force for this device will be lower by 20-40% in comparison with the devices of Types 1-3 at the equivalent forging modes.

3. New Systems and Design Elements for FDFDs Developed and Incorporated in 2019-2020 3.1 System to Fix Dies to the FDFDElements All types of FDFDs can be equipped with the systems for quick fixation and exchange of dies. The most up-to-date system for fixation of the dies, which our company has used recently, is located

inside the top and bottom bodies of the forging device and in its sliders. In order to remove a die, only one screw needs to be rotated through several turns from one side of FDFD. Before the dies are removed, FDFD is opened, and with the help of the manipulator, a special mandrel is moved into the working space of FDFD (see Figure 5) and placed on the lower die. Then, the dies are brought together until they contact with the mandrel.
