FORGING RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY
Type 1 : FDFD for production of forgings with mainly round cross section from the ingots with round, square, and polygonal cross sections. This device type uses the forging technique with additional shear deformations in the transverse plane of a workpiece. This design solution is the FDFD type, which is most frequently used by customers, and proved itself to be good and well-integrated in the production system of many companies, Figure 1.
Type 2 : FDFD for production of forgings with round and square cross-sections from the ingots with round, square, polygonal, and rectangular cross-sections using the forging technique with additional shear deformations in the transverse plane of a workpiece and non-symmetric swages in its longitudinal plane, Figure 2. This design of FDFD allows one to forge using two and four dies without changing the tooling. The advantage of such a design solution is that the forces during forging using four dies are lower by 15-18% in comparison with the FDFD of Type 1 at the similar deformational treatment modes.
