History of Innovation Oliver Crosby founded the company in 1881 after developing the first ‘Red-U-Bolt’ wire rope clip, one of the most recognizable products in the material handling industry today–the standard by which all other clips are measured. As an industry leader in metallurgy, Crosby perfected the Quench & Tempering® method of heat treatment of steel in 1973. The process has been found to be the method best suited to fully develop the strength, and enhance the grain flow of, carbon and alloy forgings. In 1977, Crosby was the first to introduce comprehensive Product Identification Codes (PICs) to maintain material control from the steel mill through the manufacturing process.
