FUNDING THE FUTURE OF THE FORGING INDUSTRY The Importance of Donating to the Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation
Reaching Future Forgers In addition to supporting educational initiatives for college and technical school students, donations to the Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation also play a crucial role in fostering interest in the forging industry among younger genera tions. The foundation organizes Forge the Future summer camps for children, where they can engage in hands-on activities related to forging, metalworking, and engi neering. These camps provide an exciting introduction to the field, inspiring creativity and curiosity in young minds. Donations also help fund the creation and distribution of “Forging with Freddy,” the first forging industry children’s book series, that explores the process of forging and safety in manu facturing. By captivating children’s imagi nations with stories and activities centered around forging, FIERF aims to cultivate a future workforce that is knowledgeable and passionate about the industry. These initia tives not only promote early learning but also ensure a sustainable pipeline of talent for the forging sector.
I n an era where industries are rapidly evolving, the need for skilled profes sionals in the forging industry has never been more critical. The Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation (FIERF) plays a pivotal role in addressing this demand by promoting education, research, and workforce development within the sector. Donations to FIERF not only support its initiatives but also ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of the forging industry. Strengthening Education and Workforce Development One of the foundation’s primary objectives is to enhance educational opportunities for individuals entering the forging industry. By providing scholarships, grants, and educational resources, FIERF helps culti vate a new generation of skilled workers. The foundation supports various programs aimed at students and professionals looking to advance their careers. Through partner ships with educational institutions, FIERF
fosters hands-on training and mentorship programs that equip students with the neces sary skills to succeed. FIERF has been providing scholarships to students since 2004. Currently, FIERF offers five different schol arship opportunities for students interested in careers in the forging supply chain. In 2024 FIERF launched a Forging Club Grant program which awards $5,000 to schools interested in starting or continuing forging clubs at their school. Awarded schools also compete in FIERF’s Forging Competition, which is an competition the foundation started in 2023 and holds every year. Donating to FIERF means contributing to a future where the workforce is not only competent but also innovative. The founda tion’s commitment to education addresses a pressing skills gap in the industry, ensuring that future professionals are prepared to tackle the challenges ahead.
